I’m a self declared queen of goal setting. I love goals. I love resolutions. But want to know what I love more? When we give ourselves the time we need to really figure out what we want.
Lately, I’ve been really in to Danielle Laporte’s work. She advises on focusing on how you want to feel over what your goal is. Instead of creating arbitrary or “should” goals, she wants your goals to be derived from feelings. For example, it’s not that you want to be 20 lbs lighter but really you want to be able to feel comfortable in your own skin (maybe that happens before that 20 pound mark?!).
I like this approach because it’s challenging a lot of my goals… especially the should ones. And dang nabbit, i thought I had beat all of the “shoulds”.
Here’s why February 1 Is the new January 1: I want you to set aside whatever you set as your 2020 resolution and instead spend the month just noodling on these questions:
At the end of the year, how do I want to feel?
When/how/why do I or don’t I currently feel that way?
What’s one thing I could do this year that will make my future self proud?
I want you to give yourself the space and time you need to come up with authentic resolutions and goals for this year. No more arbitrary or should-tastic goals. Make this year all about you.
Love,
Kelsey
