4 Steps to Take When You’re Frustrated

I know this post will be one you skip over because I’m certain none of us have been frustrated lately.

Oh wait. Maybe that was 2019. If you didn’t have a “word” for 2020, it may very well be “frustrated”.

I don’t know about you but it feels like it is anything from the little things to some really big things that can get under my skin and make me frustrated. I don’t like it when I get frustrated because I feel so stuck. As someone who looks for the good in all things, it’s a counterintuitive place for me to be.

As with most situations we’re confronted with, you end up with an inner choice to make. There is a moment before any of our reactions or actions in which we decide what we’re about to do or say next. I want you to try these 4 things next time that moment presents itself.

  1. Pause. You’re already in a small moment in time so you might as well extend it a little bit longer. You can do so by following step number 2.

  2. Breathe. In the pause, talk a deep breath. When you focus on your breath, you can’t focus on anything else other the present moment. Let the inhales and exhales given you more time to step into a place where you find your highest self.

  3. Think. Think about what your highest self would do in this situation. Don’t let your inner gremlin take over. If you start to feel your heart racing again, go back to step one.

  4. Act. Notice how many steps there are before you do or say anything. Once you’ve successfully gone through the first three steps, you are ready to react to whatever is presenting you with frustration.

This might seem like a lot of work to do… and it is. You can allow yourself to take the path of least resistance which is giving in to the frustration, the negativity and the life-sucking thing that’s bringing you down OR you can follow these four steps to allow your highest self to decide what happens next.

Just in case you do find yourself frustrated, I hope you find these steps helpful.

Love,
Kelsey
